Special Video Showing for Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgender Month
Forbidden Love: The Unashamed Stories of Lesbian Lives
In this film, ten lesbians talk about their experiences in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s: their first affairs, discovery of the queer fiction of the day, gay bars, police raids, race and class divisions, men’s responses, and the etiquette of butch femme roles. The film paints a vivid portrait of the clandestine homosexual culture in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and New York during those years. Interspersed among interviews and archival footage are four dramatized chapters from a steamy pulp novel, Forbidden Love. The film also includes Ann Bannon, an early writer of lesbian paperbacks, talking about the genre.A dinner, with vegetarian option, will be available at 6:30pm for a $7.50 donation. The meeting will be held a New Freeway Hall, 5018 Rainier Ave. S., Seattle, and is hosted by Radical Women. The building is wheelchair accessible.
