Join a Campaign to pressure City and County public officials to use vacant properties to house the homeless

August 11 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Over 50,000 people are homeless in Los Angeles County.  They are disproportionately Black, and the fastest growing age group is over 62 years old.

Los Angeles Freedom Socialist Party and other local activists are starting a campaign to pressure city and county governments to deploy their unused and underused land and buildings to build, own, and run permanent supportive housing, shelters, and safe parking areas for people living in cars and trailers.

The campaign was sparked by the City Council’s recent refusal to renovate the empty former police headquarters (Parker Center) into a facility that could house and provide services for 732 homeless people.  Instead, they decided to tear it down and spend close to $1 billion on a 29-story building for city offices.

Come to the August 11 meeting to learn more and contribute your ideas on how to build the campaign.
