FSP meeting: The case for the vanguard party and the Leninist method of organising
February 12 @ 6:30 pm
From Chile to Lebanon, Hong Kong to Sudan, people are angry and mobilising against the status quo. In Australia, where huge swathes of the country are devastated by bushfires, masses of protesters have taken to the streets, — many with placards demanding “system change, not climate change!”
How will system change come about? And who will make it happen? The fate of contemporary global struggles hinges on finding the right answers to these crucial questions. Early last century, V.I. Lenin, who became the leader of the victorious Russian Revolution, developed the concept of a vanguard party.
This meeting will discuss what pioneering revolutionaries —including Lenin, Trotsky and James P Cannon — said about this question of leadership. It will also study a 1978 presentation to Portland Radical Women, Democratic Centralism, the “Organization Question” and leadership in the Bolshevik movement, by Freedom Socialist Party founder and trailblazing Marxist feminist, Clara Fraser.
Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm for a $10 donation and discussion commences at 7 pm.
Solidarity Salon, 580 Sydney Road, Brunswick.
