Lenin – State and Revolution

December 19, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every 2 weeks that begins at 6:30pm on Wednesday, repeating until January 16, 2019

This book is a classic. Written by Lenin as a practical guide on the eve of the Russian Revolution, it’s still essential study for making the global overhaul so needed today. Lenin’s purpose was to correct distortions of Marxism that emerged in the international socialist movement. He explains the nature of the state and articulates what’s needed for the working class to take power, and then hold onto it.

Session 1 — Wednesday, 24 October: Class society and the State
Session 2 — Wednesday, 7 November: Lessons from the revolutions of 1848-1851
Session 3 — Wednesday, 21 November: The experience of Paris Commune of 1871
Session 4 — Wednesday, 5 December: Contributions to the question by Engels
Session 5 — Wednesday, 19 December: The economic base of the withering away of the State
Session 6 — Wednesday, 16 January: Vulgarisation of Marxism by the opportunists

State and Revolution is widely available in many different imprints. The full text is also available on line at the Marxist Internet Archives.

Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm for a $10 donation, and the discussion commences at 7 pm.
