Maintain the momentum of 2020: Deaths in custody must stop — learn how!

January 14, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm AEDT

When cops in the U.S. shot George Floyd it made global headlines. Yet the all too frequent deaths of First Nations people at the hands of police and prison authorities do not generate the same level of media interest and community outrage.

In 2020, many more people realised how wrong this is! Multiracial crowds marched in Indigenous led protests asserting that Black and Indigenous Lives Matter. There were outpourings of solidarity as people shared, tweeted, signed petitions, donated and demanded things must change. But what now?

It is crucial that we maintain the momentum and further strengthen the movement to stop deaths in custody!

The Indigenous Social Justice Association Melbourne will dedicate its first meeting of 2021 to welcoming people keen to make a difference through being actively involved in the ongoing campaign to prevent more deaths in custody. This is an opportunity where you can learn more, ask questions and offer skills.

ISJA activists, David Harris, Cheryl Kaulfuss, Sean Pickard and Alison Thorne will review 2020 and discuss the much needed solutions advocated by the movement. Mary Micaleff will facilitate the discussion.

The Freedom Socialist Party supports the Indigenous Social Justice Association – Melbourne and encourages you to join the ISJA team that works with deaths in custody families to fight for justice.

Contact freedom.socialist.party@ozemail.com.au with your email address and we will arrange an invitation for you to join this online discussion via zoom.
