Study Circle: Marxism and the right to self-determination

February 28 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm AEDT

An event every 2 weeks that begins at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, repeating until February 28, 2024

4 session study series
Marxism and the right to self-determination

“The working class has no country,” Marx and Engels famously declared in the Communist Manifesto. Yet it was Lenin who taught the international communist movement that nations must be able to determine their own destiny. With wars raging in Gaza and Ukraine, it is more important than ever to understand how these two ideas connect. We’ll examine how the question of self-determination applied in Tsarist Russia, the prison house of nations. We will explore the objective criteria for nationhood and then apply these ideas to contemporary case studies.

Starts Wednesday, 17 January, 7 pm and then every second Wednesday
