Score a victory against bigotry! The trans-bashing, book-banning Moms for Liberty bombed in many school board races this November. Two-thirds of their selected candidates were defeated across a dozen states.

What a well-deserved comedown. These arch-conservatives have cut a venomous swath through public education since they formed during the pandemic mask wars. They targeted librarians who offered books on sex ed, gender identity, and people of color history — readings that the group mischaracterized as pornography, gay grooming, and defamation of whites.

They vilified teacher unions and educators, and gave a platform to the violent, racist Proud Boys.

Who would want these free-expression squashing adults on school boards? Certainly not the youth of Florida, who rallied vigorously against the “Don’t Say Gay” bill which Moms lobbied for. Maybe students finally got through to voting-age adults.

Or maybe Moms crashed on the shoals of abortion rights, which won everywhere they were an election issue. Supporters of bodily autonomy would certainly reject these Christian nationalists controlling education.

As feminists, we are disgusted by women like the Moms who act as handmaidens of despotism. It’s time for the targets of their poison to unite to dump all Moms for Liberty off all school boards.
