After three whirlwind months, the Freedom Socialist’s $80,000 fund drive came to a close at the end of August, and we’re happy to report it was a tremendous success! We smashed our goal, taking in a grand total of $91,568. That’s thanks to the overwhelming generosity of you, our readers and supporters, and the hard work of Freedom Socialist Party and Radical Women members around the globe.
Contributing to the drive’s success were numerous special events and extra fundraisers. Here in Seattle, a giant rummage sale at New Freeway Hall bringing in over $6,000 was only possible thanks to the help of 52 volunteers and a handful of staff. In Australia, sales of a new book highlighting local anti-fascist activism (see review here) benefited the fund drive as well as the fight against Nazis.
If you are one of the many generous souls who contributed, know this: your money is in the hands of a team that strives for quality journalistic integrity beyond any institution controlled by capitalists. With grassroots fundraising, we can continue shouting the truth uninhibited, never kowtowing to selfish corporate interests.
Our pro-labor feminist perspective goes from our heads to your eyeballs unsullied, and we bring you news that highlights underserved perspectives. This is evident in our reporting on Afghan women in Pakistan in the last issue, the unthinkable conditions caused by imperialism in Haiti, women hospitality workers leading strike waves for fair contracts in 2024, and countless examples that can be found in the online archives of the Freedom Socialist.
As you know, under capitalism, money makes the world go round, and that includes the FS too. When the bills are paid on time, it’s easier to do our best work, and it also opens doors to innovations that directly benefit our readers such as the full FS redesign done less than two years ago. I can assure you there’s more greatness in the works, but for now all that’s left to say is one more great big THANK YOU!
