November 2012 — Indian auto workers fight. To stop an independent union organizing drive, Maruti Suzuki India fires 546 workers and has 149 jailed after a management provoked altercation at the car plant. Fired workers wage a hunger strike and are joined by several thousand in a protest rally in the district capital.
November 2012 — The terrible Twinkies. Hostess Brands got major concessions from workers in 2004, but pocketed the cash instead of modernizing. The bakers’ union recently strikes against more cuts and elimination of pensions. The company uses this as an excuse to shut down and wipe out 18,500 jobs.
