LIBERATION
Not possible under a capitalist system
I just finished reading Elias Holtz’s article “Mamdani vs. the status quo: What’s next?” [Vol. 46, No. 5]. I am a naturalized U.S. citizen of close to 60 years. I am a former U.N. Ambassador who has traveled the world and this country from Seattle to Florida, California to Boston.
I am deeply encouraged by this article because I know as a Black man, we cannot achieve anything resembling liberation in a capitalist system.
It saddens me that so many of my people are reluctant to explore the possibility of betterment. I will continue to follow the Freedom Socialist in search of betterment.

UK media, tell the truth
The majority of people in the U.K. aren’t worried or fearful about protesters in the street protesting about the genocide taking place in Gaza. The majority want an end to the murder, the slaughter against Palestinians.
“The British Government under Keir Starmer has banned any support whatsoever for the murderous actions of the Israeli state and their genocidal army, the IDF.” What about that for a headline? It suits the mood of the British public better than the headlines we are reading.
The illegal arrest and torture of Swedish activist, Greta Thunberg, would have sparked ubiquitous front page headlines if she had been arrested and tortured by any other country. Imagine the headlines if Iran had arrested and tortured Greta Thunberg. But it’s Israel. The headlines we should be reading just don’t fit the narratives that mainstream media adhere to.

Kids should not suffer
[Excerpts from appeal sent by Rosenberg Fund for Children]
Should right-wing hate be aimed at children? I’m certain you agree that the answer is a resounding “No!”
Yet, hundreds across this country are the victims of such horror and heartbreaking unfairness — at the hands of reactionary fanatics, including our own government.
Kids who are taking the heat for their parents’ commitment to progressive activism — for peace, human rights, racial and economic justice, and other issues.
Like sisters who were terrified by gunfire at their home after their mom fought to reallocate funding from the local police force to mental health services. Or an 11-year-old boy whose immigrants’ rights activist father was detained by ICE in apparent retaliation for his leadership in the movement.
For 35 years the Rosenberg Fund for Children has been easing children’s pain and providing them with safe, positive opportunities for healing and growth — by paying for therapy, education, arts programs, camps and even prison visits.
