Mississippi justice?

The murder of Ahmaud Arbery emboldened at least two white racists to try a replay. On Jan. 24, D’Monterrio Gibson, a Black FedEx driver, faced a similar attack. Luckily, despite the copy-cat assault and his FedEx truck being shot up, Gibson survived.

No one in authority seemed to care. His FedEx supervisor downplayed the assault and initially told him to complete his route. The police took days to arrest the two men — a father son duo. They were charged with aggravated assault and released on $75,000 bail. Aggravated assault? Where’s the attempted murder charge?

This is Mississippi justice? A Black man is targeted by two whites and the official response is practically nonexistent. This is racism on steroids. This is what happens when white supremacy is allowed to flourish.

Over half a century after the height of the Civil Rights movement, we are still fighting for the basic human right for Black folks and all people of color to live in this country. That alone is reason to kick this rotten, racist, patriarchal system to the curb.
