Thanks to protests like the one shown above, on April 25, the death sentence of Melissa Lucio was stayed by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals and her case remanded to a lower court for review. Finally, after 15 years, Lucio has a hope at freedom.
In 2008, Melissa Lucio was convicted of murdering her two-year old daughter Mariah. Mariah died from falling down stairs, an accident which was witnessed by others.
Meanwhile, Lucio confessed to “being responsible” after being grilled five hours with no counsel, water, or food.
