I am inspired by youth and elders who are resisting the genocide of Palestinians and defending their immigrant communities in the streets. Their fervor reminds me why I joined the FSP.
Back in the early 2000s, the antiwar and pro-immigrant rights movements were radicalizing progressive-minded youth of color like myself. My intersectionalities of race, sex, class, and sexuality made me a multihued feminist. However, many of the organizations wanted me to choose which part of myself to fight for. I realized that I needed a “one-stop” group that cared about all of the issues that impacted me.
Global war and the attacks on immigrant rights are personal for me. I am a first generation Mexican-American and identify as a descendant of indigenous people as a Xicanx. I’m also queer.
I grew up in the low-income neighborhoods in San Francisco where joining the military was the main option out of the hood. I joined Junior ROTC like others in my high school. But when I walked the janitors’ strike line with my father, I yearned for a revolutionary political analysis to match my experiences.
I have worked in the reproductive justice, anti-fascist, and immigrant rights movements. FSP’s program is multi-issue, multi-racial and demands the implementation of a socialist society. What I understood early on in my activism is that all these movements are interconnected and have the common enemy in the capitalist class.
I became a Xicanx Bolshevik. Bolsheviks are warriors and dialectical materialists, whose work symbiotically carries out the program. A Bolshevik is not a machine, but a compassionate, serious professional revolutionary. Workers are divided, so we don’t always see how connected we are as an oppressed class. I am optimistic that workers will take back the wealth and land that was stolen. Workers can run the whole country and save the world.
Trump and Project 2025 have been on the attack against immigrants and the most downtrodden. There is fear and terror being spread by ICE agents and racist xenophobic people. No one is illegal on stolen land. Trump’s plans are illegal.
The resistance is in my blood and the working class! It is instinctive for me to be in solidarity, to unite and make connections and build community, especially right now. FSP is teaming up with other groups and activists to fight back — let’s work together!
