This “Resolution condemning Turkey’s imminent invasion of Rojava in Northern Syria” was adopted on December 5, 2022, at the Freedom Socialist Party National Convention in Tukwila, Wash. In late November, Turkish air strikes across the Kurdish-held area of Rojava in Northern Syria killed civilians, journalists, and Kurdish freedom fighters. These bombardments worsened an already existing humanitarian crisis in the besieged region. And they were accompanied by the threat of a full-scale military invasion by right-wing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, a danger that remains. International solidarity with Kurdistan is essential.

Whereas the Freedom Socialist Party supports the struggle of the Kurdish people for national self-determination across Western Central Asia against the current bourgeois regimes of Syria, Iraq, Iran and Turkey;

And whereas the Freedom Socialist Party as a revolutionary socialist feminist party supports the ongoing armed self-defense of the Kurdish people in Rojava in Northern Syria in which Kurdish women continue to play a critical role fighting for freedom against patriarchal oppression and imperialist exploitation;

And whereas the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is using the November 13th urban terrorist attack in Istanbul to increase repression of Kurds in Turkey and across the border in Rojava, falsely claiming that this attack was carried out by the Workers Party of Kurdistan (PKK), the Democratic Union Party (PYD), and the People’s Self-Defense Units (YPG-YPJ);

And whereas Turkey in retaliation carried out a November 19th bombing of various regions of Kurdistan targeting hospitals, schools, food storage facilities and a power plant among other targets, despite the fact that the PKK, the PYD, and YPG-YPJ forces all condemned this November 13th attack;

And whereas in the last six months, the government of President Erdoğan has carried out 2,700 chemical weapon attacks;

And whereas everything points toward Turkey preparing to launch a full-scale military invasion across the border into the Kurdish region of Rojava;

Therefore be it resolved that the Freedom Socialist Party meeting in Seattle, Washington, at its National Convention condemns the Turkish regime’s continued genocidal policies against the Kurdish people;

And be it further resolved that the Freedom Socialist Party equally condemns the U.S. and the forces of NATO who stand silent in the face of its NATO member Turkey’s imminent military invasion of Rojava;

And be it further resolved that the Freedom Socialist Party will write the Turkish Embassy in Washington, D.C., to express its condemnation as well as do everything possible to support the struggle of the Kurdish people and its brave women fighters who stand on the front lines in the battle for survival of the Kurdish people.

Long live the revolutionary struggle of the Kurdish people!
