Thank you for the excellent first issue of the Freedom Socialist Organiser. This is a lively and informative publication. I am pleased to read that it will come out more regularly than Freedom Socialist Bulletin did. This is a good, timely development too.
I always enjoy reading the letters section, and as usual this contained lots of interesting contributions. It is a very healthy and encouraging thing to see this sort of reader input in a people’s publication. And the fact you put two pages of letters at the front of the FS Organiser says a lot about the emphasis you and the party place on the importance of your readers’ ideas and news. The letter about the Balibo film screening from Indonesia was good to read. And Amelia Walker’s feedback was appreciated as well.
I liked all the content, but especially your moving tribute to Waratah Rose Gillespie. I was involved in the struggle to support Bougainville, but my contribution was small compared to Waratah. I never met her, and your vivid recollections really made me wish I had.
She was a committed, compassionate and passionate person who achieved a lot in her rich life and we do need more like her. Her words and actions will live on to inspire and incite the rest of us. And her example I hope will encourage others to continue the fight for a better world. Together we will win.
