Billionaires have two parties – workers need our own.

There are more reasons than ever before to be fed up with the capitalist trap of the two-party system.
Lots of people are enthusiastic about Kamala Harris because of disgust with Trump’s scapegoating, racism, and misogyny. And many are inspired by the historic nature of her candidacy. It’s understandable. And yet, given that both parties are the servants of corporate interests and imperialism, how could her presidency offer a genuine alternative? Working people could still expect the funding of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, inhumane crackdowns at the border, little or no effective action for reproductive justice, worsening conditions for workers across the world, and a planet burning unchecked.
The main line of the Harris-Walz candidacy is to vote for them or face fascism. But the Democrats have enabled the rise of the far right by defending capitalism, ignoring working people’s pain, and undercutting the unions and mass movements necessary to counter the reactionaries.
Workers and all those under attack desperately need a political voice through a party willing to stand up to the right wing and fight for people’s basic needs and the health of the planet.
That’s where a working-class party comes in!
A labor party could rise out of unions and community groups and be democratically built from the bottom up, with a feminist, anti-capitalist platform that pushes for improvements in jobs, housing, education, and healthcare.
A labor party could leverage the power of unions to demand an end to the occupation of Palestine, advance reproductive rights, defend immigrants and people of color from racist attacks, defeat anti-trans legislation, and mobilize to urgently deal with the climate crisis. It could lead union drives and help unions coordinate their campaigns for better wages and benefits. And it could be a powerful force to bring workers together in a united front to oppose the growing far right.
In contrast to the corrupt parties of the bosses, a labor party could be led by members and able to hold candidates accountable to the platform.
The timing is right. More people than ever are fed up with the Democratic and Republican parties, while unions have never been more popular. And why not! Organized labor has the power to push things forward, as shown by successes won during the 2023 strike wave. That power is desperately needed to answer the multiple crises of our moment.
Let’s raise the call everywhere for a labor party to give workers and oppressed people a real political voice, one dedicated to winning a better life for all.
