“People should receive help because they need it”

A letter to the Seattle Times by Henry Noble.

Your article about the GOP Medicaid requirement (Sunday, June 29) reports that the work requirement “ensures that the government directs resources to Americans who are contributing to society.” That is, they earn a wage.

This completely goes against what most people believe – that people should receive help because they need it. It is horrible, mean and murderous to withhold medical care in order to force sick or aged or disabled people to be exploited in low-paid jobs.

How dare those legislators deem to decide who contributes to society? The elder who takes care of their grandkids, the person caring for a relative, the person sharing a greeting in a park or planting flowers in a yard… These people contribute to society a thousand times greater than the wealthy and pampered lawmakers trying to enrich themselves off misery.

Working people need to resist and rid ourselves of those ruling parasites and create a caring society that is based on, as Karl Marx stated so simply, “to each according to their need; from each according to their ability.”
