On May 25, 2023, Community POWER Act organizers held a press conference calling on the NY City Council to pass a bill to establish community oversight of the NYPD with an elected review board able to fire abusive cops and an independent prosecutor able to prosecute criminal police.
This action was on the third anniversary since George Floyd’s death at the hand of police, which re-ignited the Black Lives Matter movement. City Council leaders are blocking the Community POWER Act from having a hearing, so campaign supporters are ramping up their pressure.
