Shown in these videos speaking are Christina López for the Freedom Socialist Party (FSP) and Gil Veyna for Organized Workers for Labor Solidarity (OWLS). Their remarks were made at a June 17 rally called to support expelling the Seattle Police Officers Guild (SPOG) from the Martin Luther King County Labor Council. That evening, the council decided to do just that in a roll-call vote representing 45,000 members in favor, a major anti-racist victory for the labor movement.
Both López and Veyna addressed the need to gain increased community control over the police – as Veyna said, “a tight leash” – through elected civilian review boards.
