A statement from the Committee for Revolutionary International Regroupment.
Once again, US imperialism, accompanied by its Zionist lackey, Israel, has shown itself in all its glory. With no formal declaration of war and in violation of international law, the US launched a surprise airstrike on February 28 on the residence of Iran’s highest religious and political authority, Ayatollah Khamenei, killing him along with his wife, daughter, son-in-law, granddaughters, and others. Terror continued that very same day when the US attacked an Iranian school, killing around 150 girls. The workers and peoples of the world must not forget these acts of terrorism and demand that Trump and Netanyahu be brought to justice and punished.
Support for Iran’s right to defend itself from military attack does not include endorsement of the current regime, which is a bourgeois, theocratic, misogynistic, homophobic, totalitarian government that jails strikers, represses ethnic minorities, murders women and LGBTQ+ people who demand the rights they deserve.
This war in West Asia is undoubtedly one of the most noteworthy events in the long struggle of oppressed peoples to free themselves from the chains that have bound them for centuries to colonial domination. Whereas yesterday the imperialists swiftly and mercilessly crushed any rebellion, today the US stands dumbfounded as it realizes it will be very difficult to prevail.
More than the fate of Iran is at stake; it is the future of its imperialist aggressors.
In addition to arrogance, cruelty and hatred towards the heroic Iranian people, the onslaught by this US-Israel axis also reveals the exhaustion of the world’s greatest empire, its weaknesses and even the madness increasingly taking hold among its leaders.
The attack on Iran by US imperialism and its genocidal partner is beginning to show cracks on all sides. Fissures within the US itself are occurring in the heart of the Republican Party, where some legislators are now referring to the attack on this Persian nation as the greatest military blunder ever in US history. Not to mention the former staunch European and Japanese allies, who are refusing to get involved in this Yankee adventure and doing somersaults to avoid it.
Added to severe damage to US bases in Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates are the bodies of US soldiers arriving home on military base tarmacs.
Iran is a nation accustomed to foreign aggression. It knows how to defend itself and does not panic in the face of attacks, even when these come from the most powerful army on Earth. Meanwhile, US citizens are weary of unjust wars in which hundreds of thousands have died over the past decades.
The Strait of Hormuz (controlled by Iran) is the key to this war. Twenty per cent of all the oil and liquefied gas traded worldwide passes through this narrow waterway. If it were permanently cut off, the economies of many countries would collapse, and the Arab nations allied with the US and Israel would literally starve to death.
Iran is destroying the desalination plants of the Arab kingpins to pressure them into ceasing their collaboration with the Empire. In addition to attacking US military bases, it is destroying radar installations and extremely expensive artificial intelligence data centers to win the economic war.
Israel and the US are losing the propaganda war. Fewer and fewer people believe their lies. The aggressors do not even bother to invent a narrative to justify themselves. They attack because they want to, and they can. This is not good for humanity. The desperate measures of a decaying empire, mired in a deepening crisis of the capitalist system, cannot bring good news. The latent danger, particularly in the face of the indefinite prolongation of the war, is an increase in destruction, death, hunger, and environmental disaster. That is the future to which imperialism is taking us if we do not stop it.
It is the masses of workers around the world who must say ‘enough’! This starts with the people in the US who are emboldened by a clear memory of the US defeats in Iraq and Afghanistan and are already protesting the war. Their memory is heightened by the current financial reality, as the economic consequences of this war are beginning to intensify. The masses of workers around the world must protest this war against Iran with mobilizations, boycotts, and general strikes, just as they did previously to support the Palestinian people against Zionist genocide.
· Stop the war against Iran!
· For the defeat of imperialism and the Zionist state of Israel!
· Long live the global solidarity of the working class!
