Don’t be misled by the media silence into thinking that the Hyde Amendment, which bans federal funds from being used for abortion, is out of the federal budget for good. In fact, it was inserted back into the Senate version on August 10.
Please contact your congresspeople immediately to make sure they don’t let the Hyde Amendment get into the final budget.
- Emphasize that eliminating the Hyde Amendment is not up for negotiation.
- Call on your congresspeople to speak out publicly about the threat still posed by Hyde and to rally support for reproductive justice.
The Hyde Amendment is a callous attack on the most vulnerable people who rely on the federal government for their medical care: Medicaid recipients, people receiving Indian Health Service care, veterans and servicepeople, and people with disabilities. Speak out for the legal, safe, legitimate right to abortion and all reproductive health services, including Plan B and other contraception, abortion drugs, pre-natal care, and non-discriminatory health care for all races and genders.
Keep up the fight by joining the National Mobilization for Reproductive Justice! More information here.
