Pre-Invasion Day in-person event: Celebrate Resistance, reject nationalism and stand with First Nations
January 24 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm AEDT
Opposition to Australia Day has a long proud history. On 26 January 1938, the 150th anniversary of the illegal occupation, Aboriginal people protested with a Day of Mourning. In 1988, the bi-centennial of invasion, 40,000 travelled to Sydney to join a massive march led by First Nations people from around the country. The numbers celebrating Indigenous survival, rejecting patriotic flag waving and taking to to streets for massive Invasion Day Marches continue to grow each year. Maintain this momentum in 2021 by participating in this pre-Invasion Day celebration of resistance.
Hosted by the Freedom Socialist Party, we will get together in person share perspectives and a scrumptious summer feast for a $10 donation.
This gathering will be held outdoors in Melbourne’s northern suburbs at a venue with plenty or parking and close to a train station.
We’ll have a COVID-safe plan in place that complies with all public health measures in place at the time.
