Rein in police brutality — fight for community control!
September 20, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm PDT
It has been 10 years since a Seattle cop murdered John T. Williams, an unarmed Native woodcarver. Federally mandated reforms in the SPD did nothing to bring Williams’ killer to justice, just as they failed to do in subsequent cases of killings by cops. This dialogue will take a look at Seattle’s existing oversight bodies and contrast them with an elected civilian review board designed to put power over the police into community hands.
Annaliza Torres and Gil Veyna, labor activists and members of the joint Comrades of Color Caucus of the Freedom Socialist Party and Radical Women, will lead the discussion.
