Mumia Abu-Jamal

Despite a public pressure campaign, Larry Krasner, the Philadelphia district attorney, appealed a court ruling that would allow political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal a chance to appeal his conviction. Krasner’s decision was appalling.

CARAVANS

Capitalism doesn’t care about people

Thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding the serious problems that we face in Central America [“Who is to blame for the human misery driving migrant caravans?” Vol 40, No. 1].

The deplorable conditions that afflict millions of human beings in this region of the world prove once again that capitalism doesn’t care at all about the fate of human beings.

Capitalism is fundamentally inhumane and displays today its most cruel, barbarous, merciless, voracious, bloody and savage nature.

Those who believe themselves to be the rulers of the world only shamelessly reveal their own cynicism. Without reason, they resort once more to violence, death, invasion, and theft with no regard for the pain and suffering they cause millions of human beings.

We must continue organizing and fighting against this oppressive system.

Hasta pronto.

BEHIND BARS

Prisoners targeted

The FBI and DHS targets a lot of us who are incarcerated and doing Abolition work. Most of my work revolves around my First Amendment Right (Freedom of Speech) activities. But because I do a lot of anti-imperialist work and I am not a supporter of the “Racist in Chief” on Pennsylvania Avenue, I’ve been branded, and my comrade Jason has been branded, an “enemy of the state!”

Prison officials recently set Jason up to be beaten by some bigots wearing Confederate Grey TDCJ employee uniforms. Then they charged Jason with felony assault and shipped him to the Ultra-Ku Klux Klan stronghold in Abilene, Texas.

As for me, they have been holding me in Ad-Seg (Editor’s note: Ad-Seg is solitary confinement) down here in South Texas with some dubious “Security Threat Designator” attached to me which is justified by some shadowy Fusion Center Report that neither I nor my supporters have access to.

We are currently involved in raising funds for an attorney who will be advocating for my release from Ad-Seg and then my parole from this hell hole.

If any of you are interested in joining my support team, touch base with Marisa at marisa_@riseupt.net and she will add you to: comrademaliksupport@lists.riseup.net.

Please know that the IWOC and the New Afrikan Black Panther Party (prison chapter) supports the work of the Freedom Socialist Party!

CLIMATE CHANGE

Concise analysis

Steven Strauss’ article in the latest issue of the Freedom Socialist is really good [“Climate change: we can avert the apocalypse,” Vol. 40, No. 1].

The analysis and conclusions are right on target! Thanks for writing it.

FIGHT THE RIGHT

Who’s infiltrating?

Thanks for the story titled “Whose free speech? Cops protect ultra-right while fencing off counter protest” [Vol. 40, No. 1].

I have been to more than one of the anti-fascists protests where the cops were body guards to the Nazis and violated the rights of, and assaulted, the anti-Nazi demonstrators.

And I really appreciated Neil Fox’s comments at the press conference. Speaking for the Seattle Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild he raised a good question.

Is the hostility toward protesters based on the infiltration of fascists into the Police Department? Not unheard of — given the recent firing of a Clark County deputy because of his affiliation with the Proud Boys.

Fox also questioned if and when the Seattle Police Department did an internal investigation for far-right elements that endanger our human rights like the Proud Boys do. Good question, and a great idea!

HOTEL WORKERS

Unity is the key

Thanks Freedom Socialist for publishing a great article by Muffy Sunde, “Hotel Workers Strike from East Coast to Hawaii” [Vol 40, No. 1].

Always proving the point in Labor … unity works wonders!
