Powerful news from the Left Radical Organization of Afghanistan (LRA) alerted the Freedom Socialist Party (FSP) that the anti-occupation movement is rapidly expanding. Millions of Afghans — east and west, north and south — took to the streets in late February to denounce murderous events that month: NATO air strikes that killed tens of civilians in Kapisa and Kunar provinces, and the U.S. helicopter bombardment of a girls’ school in Nangarhar province.

U.S./NATO forces and Afghan police have killed hundreds of the protesters and injured thousands. But the people are steadfastly on the move to force the occupiers out of their country.

The resistance was growing even before 16 civilians in Kandahar province were horribly mowed down and set afire in their homes by a U.S. soldier on March 11.

About the massacre, anti-war GI organizer Jorge Gonzalez pointed out, “This is what happens when you have 10 years of war.” And, as FSP International Secretary Guerry Hoddersen wrote to LRA, “It is also what comes of U.S. imperialism without a strong anti-war movement at home.”

It’s time to end the occupation and bring all U.S. troops and mercenary contractors home now. It’s time for the U.S. anti-war movement to revive with a vengeance.
