Freedom Socialist Party meeting
Cuba today: The long U.S. war and its bitter fruits
In 1959, Cuba’s revolution threw a challenge at capitalism’s doorstep, inspiring millions of people throughout the world. It also unleashed anti-communist retaliation from the U.S., lasting more than 60 years. Today, Cuba faces grave problems. To understand them, including the unprecedented protests that recently spread across the island, we need to know the history of U.S. involvement.
Maudie Osborne, retail worker and member of the Retail and Fast Food Workers Union, will draw on writings from the Freedom Socialist newspaper to make the case that the solution for Cuba lies in achieving workers’ democracy. Only by freeing the energy and decision-making power of its people, and making common cause with workers throughout the world, can Cuba bring Uncle Sam’s unrelenting persecution to an end.
Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm for a $10 donation and the discussion begins at 7 pm.
Solidarity Salon, 580 Sydney Road, Brunswick.
