The long and tenacious fight to stop deaths in custody — Why they keep happening and what it will take to stop them

April 13 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm AEST

Freedom Socialist Party meeting
The long and tenacious fight to stop deaths in custody
Why they keep happening and what it will take to stop them

This month marks 33 years since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody released its findings. Among its 339 recommendations, still not fully implemented, is imprisonment as the sanction of last resort. Since then, more than 550 First Nations people have died in police and prison custody, and the incarceration rate continues to soar. There’s also a staggering lack of accountability. The need for solutions is urgent!

Join us to discuss why this is happening and how police and custodial authorities can be made answerable. Pay tribute to the deaths in custody families, who are the heart of the movement. Learn how you can work with us as part of this movement.

Lunch served at 1:30 pm for a $10 donation and discussion starts at 2 pm
