In a shocking decision, SCOTUS didn’t kiss Trump’s rump and go along with his plan to trash mail-in voting and disenfranchise untold numbers of people. Guess it was a step too far in shredding the Constitution for the Supreme Court majority. So, a battle was won, yet the war continues.
The last time Trump lost at the polls, there was a homegrown insurrection when right wingers took over the Capitol Building. The Donald cheered them on after months of stoking his fraudulent “Stop the Steal” campaign, which led to voter and election worker harassment at the polls.
While mail-in voting may be safe for the midterms, Trump will undoubtedly switch tactics to tamper with the results. And who will suffer the most? Marginalized communities like Black voters and other people of color.
Working people have got to be ready to protect polling stations and defend the registrars if there is any interference or intimidation. And if there is an attempt to steal the vote, we have got to hit the streets.
Activists, unionists, working-class organizations and the Left need to be ready to lead whatever resistance is required. Let’s not wait for the Democrats to decide if there will be action.
This November, let’s plan to be out front, strong and bold!
