You’ve read the papers and watched on your screens. Faux news and alternative facts … they’re all the rage. And quite rage-inducing! The Freedom Socialist (FS) is an antidote to the indigestion caused by the Kellyanne Conways and Sean Spicers of the world.
As radical journalist and civil rights leader Ida B. Wells said, “The way to right wrongs is to shine the light of truth upon them.”
The analytical and activist FS has been a beacon of truth-telling for over 40 years. Now we are counting on your help to keep the light on! The Freedom Socialist is holding a four-month fund drive to raise an ambitious but much-needed $100,000.
As you might expect, the working-class, not-for-profit FS has no corporate advertising. And we keep the price of subscriptions and individual copies below actual costs so that the paper is affordable for low-income folks, students, and international readers, and free for prisoners.
Every dollar you give will go directly to the costs of publishing this unique socialist feminist paper: wages for our only paid staff member (everyone else is volunteer); printing and mailing the paper; and basic office needs, such as computer upgrades and other equipment improvements.
The March-June drive is off to a great start with over $24,500 collected and thousands more pledged as of press date — but there’s a long way to go. Friends and supporters are joining Freedom Socialist Party (FSP) members in a wide array of fundraising efforts including movie nights, rummage sales, a forum series, raffles, and study groups.
Why are people willing to lend a hand? It’s because the paper informs, inspires, and speaks to them in a way that mainstream media doesn’t. Readers testify to this in letters that include praise like this: “As usual, the Freedom Socialist hits the nail on the head.”
You can make this drive a success. Will you contribute? Any amount, from $500 to $5, is greatly appreciated and will be used well. It’s easy to give. You can donate online here or mail a check to: Freedom Socialist, 5018 Rainier Ave. S., Seattle, WA 98118.
The FS needs your assistance in other ways, too. Could you help distribute the FS in your area or online? Or help uncover facts for upcoming stories? Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to get involved, or go to the home page of this website and check out FSP activities.
Let’s do this thing — together!
